Portfolio Larson House - Gila, New Mexico
The Larson Residence is a small vacation home on a remote site in Gila, New Mexico. The design layout optimizes the majestic views of the site while providing passive solar heat gain. The room layout was designed to give maximum privacy to each of the two bedrooms, but also give spacious feel to the living spaces. The wall construction, consisting of Insulated concrete forms infilled with concrete, provides a high insulative "R" value. The style of architecture is traditional, and fits well in the surrounding austere landscape of rolling mesas with juniper and gamma grass. The interior details compliment the traditional style architecture with a Kiva fireplace and traditional tile work. Poured concrete floors are throughout the house, which in the winter, picks up the solar gain from the passive solar design.
